The Ark of the Covenant: Myth or Symbol for Higher Reality?

The Ark of the Covenant was first mentioned in the Old Testament when the LORD gave Moses the laws for the Tabernacle (Exodus 25, 10-22).

He described exactly how the Ark should be made of acacia wood and gold. Among other things, the Ten Commandments, which GOD had revealed to Moses on Mount Sinai, were to be kept in the Ark.

But what is it about the mysterious Ark of the Covenant? What role did it play in tradition and does it still play in human life today?

What is the Ark of the Covenant?

The lid of the Ark was made of gold, with two cherubim standing opposite each other on it, protecting the Ark and the law kept in it with their large, magnificent wings and spanning the mercy seat.

On the mercy seat, the LORD commanded everything that was to happen in connection with the Holy People, the Israelites.

Covenant

Since Moses was a worthy high priest, only he was allowed to communicate with the LORD in this way. The fact that the Ten Commandments were kept in the Ark of the Covenant and GOD communicated only with the worthiest human is considered extremely holy and worthy of protection.

The Divine Law of Cause and Effect

The kingdom of God and its magnificent gifts cannot be forced or even militarily looted. The laws cannot be violated without penalty or atonement. The transgressors gain no advantage from it and are punished in a just manner according to their offense.

However, there is a possibility to repay the debt many times over so that a balance can be achieved. The law of cause and effect applies equally to all.

When the Ark was returned, it came to the hill of Abinadab’s house and was guarded there.

Later, Samuel advised the Israelites to give themselves wholeheartedly to the Lord so that they would not have to fear another attack by the Philistines.

Since the Israelites followed Samuel’s advice and obviously trusted God without ifs or buts, they were protected from the next attack, and the Philistines were humiliated so that they could no longer reach Israelite territory. The Israelites even recaptured all territories they had previously lost to the Philistines (1.Samuel, 7).

The Ark of the Covenant is mentioned further in the Bible until the New Testament and Revelation. The law is therefore always valid and is not withdrawn or corrected; it is fulfilled.
